The XBOX 360
Okay, I know! It’s Microsoft, but I just had to get one. The gameplay on this box is just awesome! I’ve only had it for a matter of days and I just can’t believe the graphics on this thing. It totally blows your mind.
My choice of games when I picked it up were Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Call of Duty 2. NFS:MW is a great game to get your blood pumping. Exceeding speeds of up to and over 150MPH burning rubber and causing mayhem on the roads. CoD2 is a fantastic FPS! I started the game in the hardest possible mode, and I find it almost impossible to play, so naturally I’ve lowered my playing level.
The power of the 360 is amazing too! There is just over one teraflop of pure processing power under the hood, 20GB HDD, 512MB RAM, 3 PowerPC processors each running at 3.2Ghz each.
As for playing classic XBOX games, it is possible however you need the harddisk and a subscription to XBOX Live for them to work, then Microsoft don’t guarantee it to work after that. So far I’ve tested Halo 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, both of which run without any problems. It’s funny when there’s an update for a classic game, because you see the 360 go back to it’s roots and you see the old dashboard.
As for the other features, the best is the Voice Chat. On the classic system you could only talk to people that were in the game at the time, this is no longer the case on the 360. It’s now possible to play a game, and your buddy can be playing another game and you can still be chatting away.
It’s also taking me time to get used to a controller that doesn’t have any wires! The ability to be anywhere in the room and play is a good thing. Take into account the controller only has a range of 10 meters.
Overall, it’s an excellent system! Scores quite high in my book for a *cough* Microsoft product!
