Montréal - August 2006
Well, my two weeks in Montréal are over, howver I had a fantastic time with Nessy! (Then again, I always do!)
I arrived on August 9th and took the first two days relaxing and not doing much at all. On Friday it was all go! Me and Nessy headed to Montreal Train Station at 6am so we could catch the train heading for Toronto. I thought this trip was going to be a breeze. I thought wrong. The train trip wasn’t the bad part (it was only four hours), it was the busses when we got to Toronto. We had to wait 2 hours for the next available bus to Guelph (at this point, Nessy was getting a little restless and upset with the whole journey). We then had to change busses at Brampton, which meant another hour wait for the bus. The trip to go from Montreal to Guelph was eleven hours. Needless to say we we’re both very tired.
We spend the night in Guelph with my cousins (also my mum, dad and my niece Natalie were there). Me and Nessy decided to have an early night, since we would be going to Lake Belwood in Fergus next morning.
Nessy and I, enjoyed two very lovely days at Lake Belwood. My cousins have recently bought a semi-new speedboat, which is far better than their previous one. Nessy couldn’t help herself and had to get in the water and spend all day bathing in the sun next to and on the boat.
On the Monday, we were driven back to the Toronto train station by my cousin Derek (naturally I gave him some gas money to get us there).
On Wednesday, we wen’t to Old Montreal. Here we were able to walk beside the St. Lawrence river, and were able to see a number of attractions Montreal has to offer. We wondered around a little, then we headed towards the Science Centre. There we saw a movie game, The Snowbirds. During the movie game, we had to sit in pairs (it wasn’t very difficult to choose my co-pilot) and the movie, er.. game, movie-game started. We had a few practice goes and didn’t do very well, until the compertition heated up (I can sometimes get very competative). With Nessy on the smoke system and me in control, we managed to totally defeat the rest of the compertition and came in first place, against at least 20 other teams.
Following that, we walked around the streets of Old Montreal, had an ice creme and came accross one of the best T-shirt shops (they make custom T-shirts). I had a T-shirt printed that simply reads ‘TABARNAC’ in big yellow letters. Nessy also found a Beatles T-shirt (real, not fake) she liked. Around 8pm we wen’t back to the Science Centre to go and see the Deep Sea 3D IMAX movie. What an experience! It was like you could reach out and touch the creatures swimming past your face.
On the Friday we traveled up to old Quebec City. What a beautiful city it was! We stayed at the, Au jardin due gouverneur hotel which was right next to Chateau Frontenac. We spent two nights in old Quebec. What I didn’t realise that it was built on a hill. I hate hills. Every street we walked along was on a hill of some varying degree. We saw only a small chunk of what Quebec city had on offer. Nessy wanted to see all of the fortifications that surrounds the old city. We’ll be going back in the future, thats for sure (except for the pub that pretends to be an English pub — bleh!).
On the Monday following the weekend, we all went bowling. Fun as had by all, me, Nessy, Etienne, Sophie and Eric. Needless to say some were more drunk and silly than others. Etienne was literally distroying the place. He managed to put a dent in the wall with a bowling ball (he was trying to pitch the bowling ball, rather than bowl the ball you do normally). If you look at the photos, you’ll see what trouble we got up to.
On Tuesday, we wen’t to the Montreal Biodome and the Olympic Stadium Tower which is litteratly down the road from where Nessy (and eventually me) lives. We visited the Biodome first. The first area was the tropical forrest. I could have died. It was do damn humid in there, but it was fasinating to see anilmals, such as tree monkies, birds, etc. all wild in this area. There were no cages or anything sepeating you from these creatures (except for the dangerious ones, such as the porcupine, otters, beavers and lynx’s). After visiting the Biodome, we went up the stadium tower. I still can’t but think that it isn’t as tall as the CN Tower in Toronto, however it’s still impressive to view any town or city from any hight.
That evening we visited Nessy’s parents for a BBQ (yay BBQ!). I really like Nessy’s parents and they like me. Nessy’s mum offered to take me shopping and help me with the french language. Nessy was a little shocked as her mother has never offered to take one of her partners shopping before. By the end of the night, we were a little drunk very happy. Me and Nessy staggered back home to bed.
On Wednesday, it was time to leave. As always this is a sad moment for both me and Nessy. We hate leaving each other at the airport when its time to go home. More details about my airport adventure can be found here.
As usual, all the photos from the trip can be found in the photo gallery.
And that’s it. I’m home now, but i’d rather be in Montreal.
